Week Eleven: Research Paper
March 24-28
Primary Objectives: Resolving research issues; progress on research papers, portfolio assignment discussion

Readings:
  • EA Chapter 19: “Using Sources”

Activities:
  • In-class time to work on research paper and address research paper issues

Homework:

Making sense of our writing/researching issues


Week Twelve: Research Paper Cont.
March31-April 4

Major Assignment DUE: Research paper due April 4th at midnight.

Primary Objectives:  Presentation assignment, build presentation evaluating criteria, Get clear on the Portfolio Assignment

Readings:
  • EA chapter 14: “Visual and Multimedia Arguments”

Activities:
  • Peer review of research papers
  • Research paper presentation prep

Homework:
  • Work on research paper and presentations
  • Readings


Week Thirteen: Presenting Research
April 7-11


Research paper presentations all week

Five minute presentation. Set phone timer. If finish short, have to stand there and entertain the class, or answer/ask questions. Handout. Some kind of visual.


Week Fourteen: Portfolio Conferences
April 14-18
Portfolio conferences all week. Missing your scheduled conference counts as an absence.

Homework:
  • Stay on top of your portfolios. The more you do now, the less work you will have for finals week. Be like the squirrel

Week Fifteen: Portfolios
April 21-25
Primary Objectives: Revision; Rethinking our writing

Readings:
  • ISUComm Foundation Courses, pg 27, 28
  • EW p. 104-125
  • EA Chapter 13 “Style in Arguments”
  • Handout: AFOSP’s revision strategies

Activities:
  • Re-Vision. Discussion of what it means to repurpose and re-see our writing
  • Discussion. Review of students’ journals/thought pieces on the readings
  • In-class revision of a piece of the instructor’s writing

Homework:
  • Work on the portfolios
  • Readings


Week Sixteen: Portfolios Continued
April 28-May 2

Major Assignment DUE: Portfolios

Activities:
  • Time to work on portfolios in class
  • Peer review of problematic parts of the portfolio
  • Meetings with students during and outside of class as needed

Homework:
  • Do 200 consecutive pushups :-)


Week Seventeen: Finals

May 5-9

  1. It would be awesome if you could get rid of all of the stuff we already did at the top, so we can easily see today instead of what we did three weeks ago. Just a suggestion.
